Last night was fun.
My old roommate Shannon was in town for the night, which made me incredibly happy. Even though it's been two years, I still miss living with her, so much to the point that I sometimes expect her to be out for the day and it's just moments before she returns home. So, last night we celebrated her being in town. We went to the neighborhood Mexican restaurant for a dinner of tacos, enchiladas, and margaritas. Three drinks later, with undying grins on our faces, we were telling stories that were, mostly, better left unsaid. But that didn't matter.
At home, we continued the party. Hunter brought us home orange creamsicle slushes which we made into mixed drinks. Believe me, it works because we tried it once before...
Two and a half years ago, Shannon and I, along with our other fabulous roommate Sarah, threw a small get-together at our house which we called Iron Chef Tallahassee. It was called that because it was a cooking party. A very, very disgusting cooking party. Getting in teams of two, you were to purchase two ingredients from the grocery story. The more obscure the ingredient, the better. Once home, with your team, you were to create a meal that included all purchased ingredients (and anything you wish to use from the kitchen.) Naturally, it was a mess. Our terrible ingredients were the following: crab meat, egg noodles, coconut milk, creamed corn, cheese wiz, orange flavored craisons, and green peppers. Again, it was a mess.
While cooking, I dared my partner, Lane, to make a mixed drink with Sunny Delight, assuming it would be the epitome of disgusting. I learned, quickly, how wrong I truly was. Apparently Sunny D and vanilla rum together taste like a creamsicle. Quickly calling it The Dreamsicle, we continued our cooking, occasionally snacking on the other foods in the house. We had a friend judge our final creations which all, of course, tasted disgusting. Lane and I received second place, which wasn't awful, however, after losing the game, Lane also lost part of his stomach due to a nice mixture of crab meat and rum. I'm almost positive that there's still a stain on the couch.
Back to last night, remembering our terrific idea, we mixed our orange creamiscle slushies with coconut rum. Again, it was a terrific success, being then called The Rumsicle. One Rumsicle later, we taught Shannon our Never Gonna Give You Up dance and tried to get the boys to participate. Finding more joy in making fun of us, they just sat there laughing. Out of breath from dancing and laughing, the three of us landed on the couch in one swift motion.
I really enjoy nights like that. Nights were no apologies are needed for stupid comments and, for once, the more things said the better.

That Iron Chef contest sounds both disgusting and hilarious.
Aw sounds awesome! And that Dreamsicle? I want one in my mouth. Right now.
Arielle - It is. That's the best way to describe it!
b2g - Hahaha. I'll mail you one! Although it would probably leak in the box. Hmmm.
This has got to be the only thing Sunny delight is good for.
That's the best thing about close friends - no matter how long you go between visits, you always fall back into the comfort zone when you're together. Sounds like a great night!
rs27 - I actually don't think it's that bad on it's own! Then again, I have the mindset of a 10 year old sometimes.
nilsa - Exactly--that's what I love. You don't even need to play catch up; it typically feels like no one ever left. I love that feeling!
I'm so trying the Dreamsicle next time I have a party. Sounds fab.
oh man that sunny d drink sounds delicious, mmmmm.
I've always wanted to do one of those iron chef challenges at home!
But yum, the Rumsicle and Dreamsicle? I am SO trying that.
The cheez wiz made me laugh. What kind of culinary creation could you make with that?!
hillary - I'm glad I could recommend it!
katelin - it is!
barbetti - Seriously, you should. They're disgusting, but so much fun. I think we used cheese wiz into a topping of sorts combined with the coconut milk. Totally gross.
I am totally going to make rumsicles with my roommate! That sounds pretty great.
Yes, I drink alcohol. :)
Dan - I'm so excited about you, me, and Lindsey going out now. It will be EPIC.
