"In coming!"
I look up just in time to see a small paperback book flying over the shelf aimed directly at my head. Already crouched down, I roll to my right, just narrowly missing The Da Vinci Code.
"Jeff!" I yell, sitting back up on my knees. A low laugh comes from the other side of the book shelf and I see three more paperbacks flying overhead, like bombs aimed at me. I jump up, still holding onto the gray scanning gun, just as the books hit the ground, one bouncing off my arm. I scowl momentarily at my immature co-worker and then grab the discarded books and quietly tip toe around the store's bookshelf.
There's Jeff, scanning the paperbacks on the shelf and tossing overhead the ones we're to get rid of according to our inventory list.
"BAM!" I yell, aiming the gray laser gun in his direction while chucking the three paperbacks in my hand at him.
"Hey!" He yells, laughing, while using a hardcover The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay to shield himself from my throws. As I look around the corner for more discarded books, I see paper flying at me. We engage in a full out book war and not one customer comes in to see what is happening. Eventually, he jumps up and runs at me. Grabbing my waist as I bend down, he slings me over his shoulder and carries me toward the other end of the Fiction section. I kick my legs and hit his back like a spoiled child, losing my breath from laughing and yelling at him to place me down. When we get to the front counter, he does and I hit him on the shoulder with my scan gun.
Somehow, we still got all of our work done that night at the bookstore.

Nothing wrong with mixing fun with work :) hehehe
It's all fun and games. Until someone loses and eye to the scanner gun. ha.
Jobs where you can have a lot of fun with coworkers are the best.
I would like to buy your scan gun.
LOL now I really really want to work at a bookstore!!!!!
Miss Caught Up - Exactly!!
Nilsa - Hahaha! Thank GOD that never happened!
JB - They really are. I miss it!
rs27 - Hmm. DONE.
Colure - I know, right? GET THE JOB!
Having fun really breaks up the monotony of working. Now if only some of my co-workers would agree to a water balloon fight.
I work for a toy company and we often have wagon or tricycle races, play Wii games on the projector in the cafe or other contests. It's fun stuff :)
this is proof that work can be fun sometimes. Unfortunately nothing good ever happens at my job, but it seems like you guys are having enough fun for all of us :-)
Ha, I like the idea of flying books.
I want to work at a book store.
I'm jealous...flying books and all.
I thought this story was going to end differently...perhaps with an ending from the erotica section?
Jenn - I'm always 100% behind water balloon fights. It brings out company..togetherness. Yes. I worked at a toy store too! Your store sounds awesome!
Maxie - Well, that was in college. My new job isn't nearly as entertaining. More fun I say!
nicoleantoinette - It's a beautiful sight, indeed.
ablogofherown - You should! It was one of my favorite jobs I've ever had.
Kristen - Hahaha. That would have been rather awkward considering we were in public. ANd he was engaged. And book stores aren't exactly the sexist of places. ...Or are they??
i heart your writing style.
this could be like "bombs over book shelves!!!" obvy sung to bombs over baghdad.
You should have had this entry scrolling up behind a starry backdrop
Alexa - Thank you so much. :) And, yes, I'm DEFINITELY singing that song now. Ha!
