Top 5 Friday - Episode One

The other day Samir had a great post about the things that always make him laugh. In times like these, it's nice to go back and find things that make us happy. Because I think it's a neat idea, I've decided to do something similar. Rather than listing 10 things that make me laugh, I'm going to list 5 things that make me happy. Five of my favorite TV shows, five of my favorite quotes, etc. It'll be a weekly feature on Fridays because, let's be honest, I never feel like writing something terrific on Fridays anyway. So, here starts my new feature "Top 5 Friday!" (Rob Gorden would be proud.) Enjoy!

Movie moments that make me extremely happy:
(Not necessarily my favorite movies, but they are my favorite moments in no particular order)

1. Peter Pan
There's an incredible scene in the 2003 version of the novel. Right after Peter descends on the Darling household he teaches the kids to fly and encourages them to come with him to Neverland. While this song plays in the background, they get ready to leave. Hesitant, Wendy stands by the open window while Peter whispers to her "Forget them, Wendy. Forget them all. Come with me where you'll never, never have to worry about grown up things again." To which she replies "Never is an awfully long time." The music takes off and they're flying. I always get goosebumps.

2. Empire Records
I admit it, when I was in high school all I wanted to do was sing with a band. I had a horrid voice (still do), but if I didn't, I would have sang this song and never stopped. Yes, that's right, I'm talking about Sugar High. The entire movie is hilarious and silly, but who doesn't love when they're on the roof starting a revolution? Watch.

3. Chasing Amy
Strange choice, I know. I love the power of silent conversations. In the end, when Bankie and Holden see one another again after their separation, they converse without words, just shrugs and finger motions. It's cute. And it shows the essence of the film. Watch (min 3:24)

4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I can't say much about favorite moments in this film because, really, the entire thing is my favorite. I adore this movie so much for so many reasons, but my favorite part has to be the ending. It's so perfect...and so hopeful. After everything they've been through, they just decide to start over, try again. And with a simple "okay" they do. I love it. Watch (min 8:09)

5. Say Anything...
Oh Lloyd Dobler, what girl wasn't in love with you? Even though this movie is a staple of 80's cinema, many people were unsure about the ending. It just...stops. In all honesty, that's what I love about it. They're on the plane, they're flying away to start a new life together. The plane is shaking, she's freaking out. He tells her that once they hear the ding everything will be okay. And as the screen go straight to a blackout, there's a ding. For them, everything will be just fine.

What are your favorite moments?

Great F-IN choices, Lauren. I love Empire Records, Chasing Amy & Say Anything. I could watch those three over and over and over again. And you're so right about the end scenes with Bankie and Holden. Great choices!!!

That is a great moment in Say Anything... and maybe a bit underappreciated too. What a great movie; and I definitely love John Cusack as well.

I do try to be a little like Lloyd Dobbler- "the world is full of guys, be a man." Though I'm nowhere near as cool or nice as him, haha.

oh i love peter pan, seriously love it.

two of my fave movie moments are so sappy. one is in the notebook when noah and ally make out in the rain, because i mean who doesn't love that whole scene, even before on the lake, aw, swoon.

and i love in titanic when rose jumps out of her life boat and back onto the titanic and runs after jack, i cry every time, haha.

Excellent list, considering the Empire Records inclusion. I've always liked the moment in Serendipity when John Cusack sees the glove floating in air, thrown by his long lost love, Kate Imsmokinghotinsale.

Oh crap. I just listed a chick flick as a favorite movie moment. Umm...

I also like in 28 Weeks Later when the husband has to decide between escaping or letting his wife and kid get eaten by zombies. That's a heartwarming moment.

P.S. Sorry I've been MIA- I really like your new blog design

Number 1 is my favorite scene too, only instead of refusing like Wendy I might say yes. I'm undoubtfully a kid.

Great list! I also love the moment in Almost Famous when they all sing Elton John's Tiny Dancer. Great scene.

I love Empire Records and Eternal Sunshine too. I haven't seen either in many years but reading this post reminded me of how much I love them. I'll have to see if I can get them on Netflix.

I love, love, love that moment in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And I love the entire movie of Empire Records. (It reminds me of middle school!)

There are too many good movie scenes to choose from, but I particularly love the one in Love, Actually when the guy stands outside his best friend's wife's door and holds up the signs. So sweet, even if she is unattainable.
