Watch this video.
Samir recently sent it to me; it's a clip from a older Conan O'Brien episode where comedian Louis CK makes fun of what we like to call Rich People Problems. You know the kind. The Internet is too slow. My flight was delayed. My cell phone's camera broke. These are the problems that are not huge, they're not universal, and they're not really THAT BAD. But, since we're so used to a time period that's incredibly technologically advanced, we assume they're the end of the world. We're at a time where flip phones are passe - remember when we didn't even have cell phones? When we didn't even have answering machines? And yet, with all of these newer and absolutely amazing technologies, no one is happy. People still complain. It's really kind of sad. And, admittedly, I do it from time to time as well because I'm used to what I have - it's still nice to take a look back and see what's improved. What's changed. And how we really are quite lucky to be in this time period.

Remember when you weren't cool if you didn't have a flip phone??? Now you're not cool if you still DO have one! Oh how time changes in like two years.
That video is sooooo true. It's funny how much technology has changed even in the past ten years. We are truly spoiled.
I'll raise my hand and admit that I get sucked into the complaining. If my Internet goes on the fritz, I lose my mind. I drop my phone or iPod into the pool (or better yet, I FALL into the pool with all my gadgets on my person) I become instantly depressed. I am about to take a 2 1/2 week trip to Poland where I will have no Internet or phone. Detox. I know this will be good for me!
I'm definitely bad about complaining about things too. In particular, I'll find myself saying I "need" something when I definitely don't. In fact, I often follow it up by saying "You know, I don't really need anything."
Yes, I know I'm gonna have a bad day if I forget to bring my cell phone or have it charged. I'll get all grumpy.
Man, it really IS hard to remember a time without cell phones! I mean, I DO remember a time without them, but man... how we functioned back then without them... mindblowing!!
I love this clip, it's so true!! We have things so good, it's good to keep that in the back of your mind.
I must confess, I sometimes get so wrapped up with little everyday annoyances--crappy traffic, slow Internet, etc.--I forgot that I'm actually pretty blessed. I've got a roof over my head, food on the table, and clothes on my back.
