My office mates have been playing Michael Jackson all day, which is incredibly fitting and I somewhat wish more days were like this. Not with the sorrow of the death of an icon (which is incredibly sad), but full of good music.
It seems like nowadays there isn't a lot of great music. Or, at least legendary musicians. Generations will always remember "Bad" and "Beat It," but "Blame it on the alcohol?" Not so much. (No offense to those who love that song).
So, aside from making this a day to pay tribute to Michael Jackson, we should also think of it as a day to remember good music. Frank Sinatra. Ella Fitzgerald. Dean Martin. The Beatles. Madonna (circa the 80's/early 90's). Feel free to add your own.
And as for me? I'm busting out the zombie makeup and dancing to Billy Jean.

Well you know me and my love for all things Beatles ;)

sounds like the perfect way to spend today.
I have been so content listening to MJ on the radio all day. It's true. Our time is lacking in great music. He was an icon.
P.S. I got the book and your note! Thanks so so much! I'm so excited to read it. I have a few books to tackle before I turn its pages, but it looks amazing! Thanks again Lauren!
What was great about Michael Jackson was that he was pop- no question about it. Yet it was good and substantive pop, at least as much as it can be. That's the big difference between MJ and what's "popular" these days.
I've been spending the day listening to MJ and trying, desperately, to Moonwalk.
That sounds like an absolutely perfect day. I wish my coworkers had done something cool like that!
Every generation thinks that the music of their time is great and everything else is not as good.
I could list you amazing music that was released in the last few years, but you probably wouldn't be familiar with it. Saying that there isn't a lot of great music just makes you seem like a square, sorry.
