Unemployment and I: A story (Part Two)

If you follow me on Twitter, you're aware of what happened. Last Friday my small online marketing company announced that they were bankrupt and closing. Meaning I'm unemployed.

Again.

(Twice in one year is good luck, right? At least this one wasn't a massive layoff where 100+ people lost their jobs like last time. This time only 7 of us!)

On the plus side, I'm was hired as a marketing copywriter for three days a week. On the downside, clearly that's not enough. So i've been searching for jobs and freelancing opportunities frantically. The fact that Samir still can't find a legal job (meaning we don't know where we're going to end up), is just additional stress.

Last time I was more eloquent about my unemployment situation, but this time I'm just frustrated. It feels like all of my plans are put on hold. I know i'll bounce back; I know I'll find something better soon. And really, I've wanted a new opportunity for a while, so I should just take this as what it is: the chance to start something new. The timing is just incredibly annoying.

But then, I've always had awful timing.
And things always seem to work out.
I hope they do this time as well.

That just sucks. Have you thought about trying to get hired on at the library, to get a leg up for your degree? I don't know how they pay, but it might be fun :)

Then I could come and visit you, or call you when they accuse me of losing audio books!

I didn't know this. :( Sorry, dear. Maybe this will give you the free time you need to make it as a big time book reviewer?

I always say this and I'm not one to give cliche advice, but I totally believe in this: what goes down, must come up (and vice versa). You'll be up in no time : ), keep us updated.

Ugh! That sucks. The market is just cummy right now. Hopefully, you'll find something better soon. Until then, try and look at it as a forced vacation. I mean, you do live in Florida.

Sorry to hear that. At least you have a little bit of bread coming in. I'm sure you'll find something soon.

Being laid off is never easy or fun. If it's possible to look on the bright side (if there is one!), at least now you can devote time to finding a job doing what you really love! You never know what possibilities may be available that you wouldn't have thought to stumble upon if you were still employed. Good luck!

If Samir is having trouble finding a legal job, has he had great luck finding an illegal job?

Also, find the irony in this sentence:

"On the plus side, I'm was hired as a marketing copywriter for three days a week."

It was great seeing you! Let me know when you're in the Windy City. (which in my head I always pronounce "why-ndy")

I'm right there with you, hun. I've been unemployed since January and have had too many interviews to remember. All I keep getting told is that I don't have enough experience which is *so* frustrating. I hope something comes up for you soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about this! Losing your job is awful, but I know you're going to bounce back. The economy isn't in the best shape right now, but there IS a place for you and Samir.
