I, too, was a bit shocked. I was always a Betty girl - she's the girl next door/best friend (and, more importantly, the character I associate with more). Why wouldn't he go for her?
Two weekends ago, when at the Miami Book Fair, Samir and I sat in on the Archie panel where the story book writers and artists gave us some information on the series. When the topic of the proposal was approached, the artists simply said: wait until the six book series ends. Okay. Clearly, they've got something up their sleeves.
So I started reading the series. Basically, Archie walks "up memory lane" and ends up in the future. There, he proposes to Veronica. Well, book three was released this month. Apparently Archie, back in present time, decides to take the OTHER path up memory lane. And this is what happens.

Yes! That's what I'm talking about!
Betty was always the better choice. It's like in "Definitely Maybe." He's just got to end up with the best girl.
Ohhhh hush I haven't seen Definitely Maybe yet!! :)
And is it weird I've never read a single Archie book?
