Top Five Friday - Episode Four

Top Five Friday is evolving! The hilarious RS27 at Your Beard is Good has decided to join up on this Top Five venture. Over at his blog he's posting his own list every week. Now you can see both of our top five lists on the same topic. Exciting? Oh yes. So go check his out (and tell him mine is better).

UPDATE: Samir has decided to join in as well! Check out his list which features a show Paul Rudd is in. I like Paul Rudd.

This week, he decided on our category, which is favorite TV show characters (who's shows are currently running.) We had to limit it because there are just too many to list. Since I rarely watch TV, this was a bit harder for me. Regardless, here we go!

Top Five TV Characters (Shows currently airing)

1. Don Draper - Mad Men
Admittedly, I'm rather new to Man Men, but so far I love it. Draper is awful at times, yes, however he's so smooth. So slick. Much like his many circulating women, I'm enchanted by him.

2. PJ Franklin - My Boys
This show is kind of my guilty pleasure. It's not that fantastic, but it's fun. There's no drama, no suspense - it's entertaining and relatable. I like PJ because she's very similar to me. I was always one of the guys - I'd rather hang around with them in a familiar bar than dress up in uncomfortable clothes and hit up a club. I love her banter with the guys and the overall feeling the show gives.

3. Tim Gunn - Project Runway and Tim Gunn's Guide to Style
Okay, he's not a character, but he's so great I had to include him. I'm partially convinced that if he wasn't on Project Runway, the show wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is. I told Samir once that for my birthday all I want is a lunch with Tim. Imagine, one whole lunch, just discussing fashion with him. Perchance to dream.

4. Lloyd - Entourage
Okay, this show isn't that great. I really enjoyed the first few seasons, but it's gotten progressively worse. Its saving grace? Lloyd. He's fabulous. I want him to be my best friend and throw pool parties at my house.

5. Chuck Bass - Gossip Girl
No explanation necessary.

(Honorable mentions that aren't all characters: Hiro from Heroes, Stephen Colbert from The Colbert Report and Joel McHale from The Soup. I also like Grey's Anatomy but none of the characters are really that likable, sadly.)

Who are your favorites?

Sweets and I only watch Entourage on Netflix ... and we're usually at least 2 seasons behind. But, Lloyd? Totally makes the show. I love that guy!

I watch my boys too. Most of my friends are boys and I like to sit at bars drinking beers so I can relate.

Lloyd is awesome. I love him and Ari together.

I love, love, love Lloyd. My boy doesn't get why I adore him so, but I do. And Tim Gunn is one of my favorites, too.

I coulld just pinch Lloyd's cheek until he gets annoyed. I like it when he's angry. Like a big baby.:)

Yes!! I, too, love 'Mad Men.' I think what makes Draper and many of the other characters on that show so appealing is that they actually are multifaceted, like real people.

It's pretty easy to have characters on most shows/movies more or less "figured out" after a couple episodes/a few minutes of screen time these days, but with Draper, you still find him something of a puzzlement after two full seasons, and while you can't condone much of his behavior, you nevertheless find yourself cheering for the guy because he's REAL. He's brooding and duplicitous and an at times an absolute wretch, but it's all genuine--and, also like most people, he does have his redeeming moments.

And, of course, he's an absolute badass. :)

As for Lloyd...that little guy's great, too! I don't think 'Entourage' would be at all watchable now if it weren't still for the Ari/Lloyd interplay.

Kudos, also, on both of the list's honorable mentions. A fictional version of oneself is nevertheless a fictional character!

Wow, I've written a lot. I'll stop now. :)
